TGH performs first living donor liver transplant on Florida's West Coast
This is history in the making. Last month, Tampa General Hospital successfully performed the first living donor liver transplant on Florida's west coast when Derek Sanz donated a portion of his liver to his mother, Patricia. In this innovative procedure, a healthy individual donates a portion of their liver allowing the recipient's liver to restore normal function, while the donor's liver regrows to near its normal size and capacity within a couple months.
