Do all writers secretly—or not so secretly—wish to step into the spotlight? I can already hear some (not all!) of my colleagues demurring, but last night I caught the voice of Vanity Fair contributor Jeremy O. Harris in new Netflix release Sacrifice before turning on a couple minutes of From Dusk Till Dawn, written by and co-starring Quentin Tarantino. Then this morning I arose to Chris Murphy’s interview with Tony-nominated playwright Jocelyn Bioh, who briefly took the Broadway stage in School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play. This role in her own play is Bioh’s first in nine years: She’s been asked to act before, but “It just didn’t feel it was right.” But this time around, the opportunity was “an offer you can’t pass up,” she said. For more from Jocelyn’s conversation with Chris, keep scrolling, then click. Also worthy of your clicks this fine Saturday: Hollywood’s mergers and layoffs seem to be hitting female execs the hardest; Harvard historian Jill Lepore explains how Big Tech is controlling the US; and Natasha O'Neill dives deep into how Taika Waititi’s new film, Klara and the Sun, deviates from Kazuo Ishiguro’s beloved book. |
