If you haven’t gotten to the theater already, you odyssey what Samantha Morton does in Christopher Nolan’s new movie. Joking aside—the two-time Oscar nominee casts quite a spell as Circe, a pioneering misandrist witch with a penchant for forcing men to show their true nature. And believe it or not, the film pulled off her most gasp-inducing sequence without the use of computer-generated imagery. How? “That’s movie magic,” Morton tells VF’s Rebecca Ford, without giving away much more than that—besides implying that some sort of puppetry may have been involved. Maybe her reticence is for the best; who really wants a magician to give away their tricks?
