Murder? It’s not just for men anymore. I’m being facetious, but that is sort of the thesis of Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the next installment of Ryan Murphy’s grisly Netflix anthology. As series cocreator Ian Brennan tells Savannah Walsh for an exclusive first look that’s live on VF today, in Borden’s age, “They literally thought that a woman was too weak to pick up an axe…. To be a woman in that period was to be almost a completely different species. You were treated like you were incapable of not only actions, but the thoughts that a man was capable of.” Homicidal feminist pioneer Borden challenged that preconception. Here’s to breaking the glass ceiling, among other things!
