If you have a spare two hours on a random Tuesday, might I suggest spending them wandering around MoMA with a best-selling writer and pioneering internet personality? That’s what I did this week, anyway. John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, is currently on tour promoting his new book: Hollywood, Ending, a dark but hopeful story about two young actors making an Andy Warhol biopic. During his stopover in New York, I grabbed breakfast with Green, then took him on a field trip to see Warhol’s soup cans and Marilyn prints IRL. As we moseyed, we talked about art and fame and the strange ways in which they intersect—and hit on a few hot topics, like his brother Hank’s brief cancellation and J.K. Rowling’s turn towards anti-trans activism. Read on to hear Green’s thoughts—and learn why The New York Times review of his novel made him roll his eyes all the way to the ceiling, Liz Lemon–style.
